TILE REPAIRS - Roof tile repairs from John Brown Roofing
Your roof is exposed to the harshest of environments of any part of your house, contstantly dending off the ravishes of the sun, rain, wind, frost, snow, birds and moss to name but a few. So whilst the whole roof may last for many many years, individual tiles can become chiped or broken and need replacement to keep the roof sound.
Whilst inspecting your roof, you may notice a slipped tile, which could be due to a number of faults:
An individual failure of the tile which has caused the nibs which hold the tile to break off or the nail holes in the tile to break.
High winds have dislodged the tile from the wooden batten it sits on
Corrosion of the nails which hold the tiles in place. Nowadays copper or stainless steel nails are used but historically nails with lower corrosion resistance were used.
Rotting of the wooden lath (batten) which the tiles are fixed on to.
Corrosion of the nails which fix the batten (lath) on to the joists .
